薛稳发先生是中国最具创作实力书法家之一，“创作”一词，写着简单，得来不易。薛先生当此殊荣，必有其道理。他的作品清丽温润，以唐代草书为基础，吸纳汉时章草、简帛书之长，兼容并蓄地把篆书、隶书、楷书等笔意容纳在其中。清新飘逸的笔法，见得古朴和天真，在古拙与秀丽中追求书法创作的灵感，使他的书法始终没有逾越书法的底线和古人留给我们的内在东西，达到了雅俗共赏，这就是薛稳发先生在书法创作中能够腾飞的根本。
欧阳中石曾评："现观薛稳发书法作品，“平衡对称，对比和谐，主次得宜，疏密适度”。笔法：因体而变，稳实丰富，法出有源，笔力遒劲，各体兼综。形成飘逸沉稳、刚健温润、灵动厚重的独特艺术风格。他的艺术创作内涵深邃，意境优美，有感情、有活力。"薛先生的作品，可以用多姿多彩四个字来形容。其书作中，不仅行、草、隶、篆诸体皆能，且于研新之创的作品中，更能看到他笔法精湛之功底，创意层出之风韵。意态万千的笔墨风采，观之令人目不暇接。若细品之，不仅仅是停留于浮表之形态，更有一种沉逸空远，幽邃深挚之情怀。
薛稳发先生笔名亚杰，1954 年 8 月生于全国历史文化名城、中华史圣司马迁故乡陕西省韩城。地灵之处自古人杰辈出，身处一个有着浓厚的重学重教之风，且文化底蕴深厚的环境中，自然对薛先生习书的影响息息相关。自幼就痴迷书法，上承当地强汉山、我国著名书法家欧阳中石、刘炳森等老一辈书法家，通过随师研墨侍砚，在耳濡目染中对书法艺术从懵懂的认知逐渐着迷而深嗜，并由此走上了漫长的学书之路。
在习书的历程中，薛稳发非常注重实践功用。在承古临摹期间，他对王羲之、欧阳询、颜真卿、柳公权、赵孟、米芾的法帖进行精心研习，从帖学中博采众家之长，于严谨虔敬的“尚古”精神里去领会古人的书作内涵。经过长期践行，他对书习之步骤及意义亦有一番深悟。
他认为，"临帖的基础一定要打好。但只临好不是目的，而是要从贴中‘走出来’，当然，这不是一蹴而就的，是一定要经过多年实践才能达到的。” 薛先生是这样说的也是这样做的。同时，薛先生一贯恪守着‘尚古’规则，不但学习优美的字形，更重要的是要从临帖的过程中领会书法的内涵精膸 。在不断勤学精练的过程中，薛稳发以坚实的楷书基础为承载，更不耽于对他家书体之习研。楷字之外，行、草、隶、篆皆是其擅长之作。细观其作，他的行草“清远”、“笔畅”、“生动”、“遒劲有力”，平和顿挫之用笔，能看清“回腕余势”之墨色和笔意，在端美清拔中彰显着“尔雅”、“秀整”的韵味。可谓有“备众善而自韬晦，行于简易闲淡之中，而有深远无穷之味”。不仅是精湛笔墨之融汇，更彰显着其洒逸不羁的疏放情怀。
他的篆隶韵味，则有一种敛沉的深邃之美，能从中感受到“见笔墨则起矜庄”的虔诚，稳厚与细谨。其字的形体较为修长且均匀，笔力刚健挺拔，法度严谨，笔笔到位，笔画线条布白谐称，笔墨雍容，安静简穆，黑墨浇注间，气骨凝结，偶有飞白流动处，则精神绽露;字势呈雄坚，端稳之大度，章法开合有致，富于变化，秉承“圆转婉通”之则而表现出古拙又相融柔之张力。通篇作品排列齐整，释文、落款、用印各具特色，整体观感稳重端庄，清秀流美，在刚柔相济之气势中，形式内容相得益彰，使作品于自然律动间洋溢着郁勃之生命元气。
薛先生习书除了重入古外，更在变通。把自己的理解和体会融入到作品中，再用笔墨技法把它们表现出来，最终形成自己的个人风格。”
他通过多年的实践，总结出勤、悟、学、练、径的五字习书法则。精益求精，坚持不懈是其精神支撑，对于笔法章法，则需要在长期的摸索中对规律掌握熟练。在他的作品中，让人既能看到字的艺术形象，又能感受到舞蹈线条和诗歌相谐之韵律，观其作品，在张弛有度的节奏跃动中渗透着作品的筋骨和灵魂，以书写骨肉，以笔墨神韵，意趣生动地将生命的灵性赋予游走的笔划，构成一幅幅形神兼备，又妙笔独成的生动之作，更成就了薛稳发在当今书坛的艺术地位。

Mr. Xue Wenfa, whose pen name is Yajie, was born in August 1954 in Hancheng, Shaanxi Province, China, in the hometown of Sima Qian, a renowned historical and cultural city in China.Since ancient times, there have been many outstanding people in the place of earthly spirit, living in an environment with a strong emphasis on learning and education, and a profoundcultural background, which naturally had a close impact on Mr.Xue's study of books.
